GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #30

Hey there, welcome to another Good Morning Mondays. Another week, another lot of activities has passed and we have a new week and new beginnings happening.

I enjoy the beginning of the new week almost as much as I look forward to the weekend.  I look forward to planning what I am going to achieve and the school I am going to get done.  Sometimes I don’t achieve anything I want to, but that’s okay, life isn’t about things but about people.

This past week we had our Revelation Bible Study on Tuesday night. This was a good night and we enjoy getting into God’s word and studying and discussing scriptures.

I bottled some apple juice this week and this was the first time I have done this. We wanted to see what it was like and we were really pleased with the results.  We had it with our Mothers Day lunch mixed with lemonade and it was delicious.  I also managed to can some ground meat which will be great for the colder months.

We had a sewing afternoon this week and because my husband was already there doing some work we went to our friends house for lunch and enjoyed a lovely meal together before getting into sewing. The girls’ quilts are coming along nicely and we might even finish sewing them next time. Then we have to snip them and put them in the dryer to fluff them up.

Here are the girls at their sewing machines, they get on so well and it is a pleasure to see them have such a lovely relationship.

Saturday morning the children had their music lessons and my   husband had to work, so I took them in, did some shopping and came home.

Here they are sitting at their teachers piano. They had just finished playing their duet and as soon as they finished they both turned to her to see what she thought. Their playing is coming along really well.
DSC_1370[1]

I hope you all had a lovely Mothers Day yesterday.  Here are the cards our youngest two made me, they were so lovely and the stickers were just so cute.  The inside of the cards were filled with words of love.  I am definitely going to keep these in a special place.

DSC_1376[1]

The weather has been quite cold and damp this past week and here is our front yard below. I really enjoy this season and I just love the way the grass greens up and everything looks fresh and damp.

DSC_1374[1]

It isn’t easy for my husband though when he has to work out in the cold so I make sure that the wood stove is going all the time to keep the house warm and inviting when he comes home.

Once again I am sorry, but I didn’t get all the posts read this week. I want to thank you all for linking up and for those of you who comment. I am blessed by the friendships that we are developing and I am always interested in what you are doing and how you live.

So our top three posts this week were…

If you haven’t gotten to read these posts, pop over if you get the time and you will surely be blessed.

I’ve got a quieter week this week and I am looking forward to being home.  Tuesday night we are selling some sheep so I will probably go with my husband to deliver them to the sale yards.

Then we might go and visit our friends Mr and Mrs H.  Mr H had an unfavourable report this past week and again I ask for your prayers for him and his family. He has more cancer spots on his liver and his lymph nodes. He has an amazing attitude and we are so blessed to be able to share this journey with him and his family.

I hope you all have a great week and you are enjoying each moment with your family.

Blessings xxxx

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #28

Here we are another week gone by and we are speeding towards May.  May is such a lovely month, winter is coming and hopefully some rain, the nights are really cooling off and the days can be bright and sunny or blurry with rain, either way they are good.

Welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays Link Up. I hope you have all had a good week and that you will face this week remembering to focus on God first and other stuff second.

I have had a quiet week at home, and didn’t achieve any of the sewing I wanted to do, but we did get all our school work and music practice done.

Our younger two children are playing a duet in the local eisteddfod in 5 weeks and they have worked hard to get the music together. We achieved this and now they are working at perfecting it and listening to each other. It sounds just wonderful and when I work it out I will put it up here for you all to see.

The children picked some more tomatoes and I did notice some more out there today so they will pick them tomorrow but I don’t know how many more we will get, but we will pick them happily.

DSC_1307

The were quite a few red ones and a bowl of green ones that I hope will turn red. They look good anyway.DSC_1306We spent some time with our friends Mr and Mrs H this past week, enjoying a quick meal together before the men had a meeting. I then sat with Mrs H and we chatted away for a few hours.

We discussed everything from schooling (she was a teacher) to cooking and recipes. She generously lent me some games that she had made years ago for her class that encourages reading and memory work. The children were excited when we brought the box inside and I am sure they are going to enjoy them this week.

They are going to join us for tea later this week on their way home from Mr H’s specialist appointment. Please remember them in your prayers as they face more testing, and scans.

We have had roaming piglet problems this past week and they seemed to always head for the main road. We had numerous drivers stop in to tell us and we finally managed to corral them all and get them sorted. This did take all of us out there standing in strategic places to stop them getting out.  They are now happy and settled with their mothers and are secure in their pen.

DSC_1292

Here they are having a good feed, I just love the way that stack in.

It’s been quite a cold weekend but my husband was able to get some work done on his work vehicle and the children were able to give him a hand, feeding wires etc.
DSC_1316

There seems to be a great pleasure that comes from helping Dad out and being with him.

Okay that’s enough, onto the link up.

Thank you to everyone for stopping by and linking up, I really appreciate it and enjoy reading your posts.

This week coming is another quiet one for me and I am determined to get some sewing done and I am going to take some advice from Tracy at Our Simple Homestead and her Step by Step Cleaning Routine to try and keep the house in order. This was a great post and gave some great advice.

I hope you all have a great week and that God really blesses you all. May you be able to focus on Him and give your heart over to Him daily.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #27

Here we go again, welcome to another Good Morning Mondays update and link up. I am amazed at how quickly the weeks are passing and we are already half way through April.

As I sit here writing this I am glad that I keep a daily diary because I can’t really remember what I did this past week :-).

My husband had another appointment with the dentist and all is good with his tooth now and he hasn’t any more pain. (Yay).

Our no 2 son was able to spend a morning helping his dad on a job up in (what we call) the bush. He had a great time and loves spending any time he can with his dad. I did warn his father though that he talked a lot, and that was one comment I got when they got home. Phew can he talk.

I suppose the more he talks, the more he asks, the more you tell and the more he learns.

We have been working really hard on their piano this week and their teacher was really pleased. I am amazed how repetition really works.

Friday night we had our granddaughters 2nd birthday tea. It takes us about 2 hours to get there but it was definitely worth it. We all had a great time and she is such a blessing and really cute.

She blew out her candles without too much spit and opened her present with such joy.

We actually arrived just as they were getting out of bed after their afternoon sleep and once she realised who we were she was so excited to see us. It brings such joy to my heart.

My daughter did a great job of cooking us all tea. There was 13 of us and the first dinner we have had like that with the other set of grandparents. There was also a few aunties and two uncles there too.

Here she is in her sparkly dress, her aunty ( our no 2 daughter – 9 years old) helped dress her.

DSC_1269She got a variety of presents and it was just fun watching her open them. Her parents have taught her well and she always opened the cards first, had a look inside, handed them to mum and then opened the present.

DSC_1273Here she is opening her new wheel barrow. She then used it as a rubbish bin and put all the scrap paper in there. She is going to be such a help out in the garden now.

DSC_1268Here is granddad with our youngest granddaughter.  I think it was all a bit overwhelming for her but she enjoyed sitting there and taking it all in. It is her birthday next month, so now she knows how it all goes.

We got home quite late but it was well worth it, we always enjoy getting together and family times are so special.

We then had to get up to go to music lessons but we were able to put them off a couple of hours, which was nice.

So that’s about it for me, now onto our link up.

I think I am home every day this week, which I am really looking forward to. I have some bedroom curtains to make and the children need some new home clothes, jumpers etc. I have everything I need to make these items, now I just need the time.

I am amazed at how God uses the every day to open our eyes to His glory and I am so grateful.

May God bless you all this week as you focus on Him, your family and those in need.

Blessings to you all dear friends.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #15

Good morning to everyone and welcome to another Good Morning Mondays link up.  How are you all going?  We have had a good week and I am looking forward to the next one.

As I said last week we went to a turkey farm, this is across the road from the Big Koala at Dadswells Bridge, click here if you want to see more about it.

IMG_0825[1]Here is no 2 daughter and son in front of the Koala.  They had a great time there, and there was a cockatoo in a cage and it talked to them.

IMG_0828[1]They were careful not to stick their fingers in though otherwise he might have bitten them off.

We bought home 3 turkeys from the turkey farm,  see our new arrivals for more information on them.

Australia has heaps of “BIGS”.  The Big Pineapple in Queensland, the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, the Big Trout in Adaminaby, New South Wales.  These are the ones I have been to and I am sure there are heaps more.

We started school again this week and music practice.  I have decided never to have a break from music practice again.  It has been an interesting week with No 2 son and his piano, but it is finally clicking in again.  He is such a good little player with great rhythm and energy.

I have done some sewing and some cleaning up of the house. The younger children and I have nearly finished weeding the vegetable patch, and only have 2 more rows of potatoes to go.  We are blessed that the weed that is growing is easy to pull out which is also helped by the fact that we have had some more rain this week.

Our zucchinis are finally starting to fruit, which is great.  I am looking forward to canning this, to add to soups and stews.  I also add zucchini to my bottled tomatoes with onions.

This week coming we have a trip to Melbourne (3 hours away) and general school work.  I am organising with a homeschooling friend to meet together once a fortnight so that our daughters can do some craft or sewing together.  We are starting that this week and I think the girls might start on a quilt – just a basic one.

We have some friends who live near the coast and they have blackberries on their property and they have offered to let us pick some, so hopefully we can fit that in this week too.

My husband has been working from home fixing a truck for a client and it has been great to have him home.  He has more to do on the truck and then has a couple jobs away from home later in the week.

Well that’s about it for my week so on to our link up.

Thank you ladies for your wonderful posts and thank you to everyone for taking the time to link up.  Each week our link up is growing and I am feeling so blessed by the effort everyone makes to stop by.

I was convicted this morning during our Sunday worship service when our pastor spoke on what we were attached to. Were we attached to things of the world that got in the road of our attachment to God.  I want to encourage all of us to look at what we are attached to and think about their importance in our lives.

Blessings to you all my dear friends.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #14

Hello everybody and welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays.  Say goodbye to last week and hello to this week, again it has gone by very quickly.

We have had a good week with quite coolish weather, which is conducive to work but not to tomato growing.  We have just been discussing the fact that we live in a cooler climate and we are going to put up a permanent hothouse next year to grow our tomatoes in and then we won’t have to whinge about the cooler weather. Sorry about that.

We have had a very social week this week with our No 2 daughter having a friend to play during the week.  They had a great time and her friend just loves coming out to the farm and running around.

No 1 son needed some new clothes so we headed to a larger town near the coast and kitted him out.  We enjoyed fish and chips in the car overlooking the beach (it was too cold to get out – sorry again) and a play in the playground (sheltered from the wind).  We had a great day together, which is rare with No 1 son working nearly full time shearing.

IMG_0812[1]
Here’s the gang enjoying a day out.
We spent a lovely evening with friends of ours who live on a much larger farm and homeschool their children as well.  They have 7 wonderful boys and 1 lovely daughter who is good friends with our No 2 daughter.  No 2 son gets lost in the crowd of little boys and he just loves it.

We are not big on peer socialization and that is one of the numerous reasons why we homeschool.  My husband says we aren’t a mono culture, we want our children to learn to socialize with all ages. Saying this they do enjoy getting together with children their own age and having a play.

It’s great to get together with like minded friends and chat about the way we do things and the way they do things, it can be quite challenging and makes us think and analyze why we do things.

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

In the late 1800’s there was an operational trading post come hotel on the corner of our property, it was called the Junction Hotel.  We had friends come out on Saturday for lunch and the husband went over the site with his metal detector.  He didn’t find any gold or anything just some foundations.  He had fun and we enjoyed having a meal together and chatting.

Well that’s our week.  Tomorrow we are going to a turkey farm to see how they process the birds and discuss the legalities and politics of the operation.  We are doing this with a friend who is interested in this type of thing.  For us it is also a field trip for the children, part of our schooling.

Enough of me and on to our link up.  We had 88 link ups and I am feeling so blessed that you all stop by and share your heart with us all.  I am enjoying reading all your posts and I am learning heaps too.

Our top post by a country mile was:

Thank you ladies for these wonderful posts and also to everyone else.  I enjoyed them all and think they are all wonderful, it is hard to pick a favourite.

Before we link up I found a few posts that were talking about trusting God, so I want to share this scripture –

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

This is my favourite scripture and it helps me in times of fear and uncertainty, so I am just wanting to encourage myself and everyone else to try and remember this scripture when fear overtakes us.

May you all be blessed this week as you work, play and love your family.

Ok let’s get the link up started, please link up any posts that relate to God and christian living – especially encouraging or challenging posts, also recipes, crafts, gardening or homesteading as you call it in America and just plain old country living here in Australia.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #13

Welcome  back to another Good Morning Mondays Link Up.  Wow where is the month going, we are nearly mid January and it never ceases to amaze me how quickly time is passing.

I’m sitting here thinking about what I did this week and I really can’t remember.  My brain isn’t good on the short term memory so it’s good I keep a diary :-).

It was quite hot here earlier in the week and there have been some big fires one about an hour north of us and some bad ones in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.  We have had thunderstorms and this brings lightning strikes which start fires and there were quite a few of them earlier in the week.

Then came the rain and the cooler weather mid week.  We live in a very blessed area where we get cool changes regularly and it isn’t often that we get weeks and weeks of hot weather.  We live about 50 mins from the coast and we get a lovely sea breeze in the late afternoon and early evening.  I really enjoy living here because of that.  Our No 1 daughter and family live a couple hours north west of us and they have much warmer weather than us.

The only problem with where we live is that we rely on the weather for our vegetables and it has been a couple of years since we have had a good tomato crop but we are blessed in so many other ways.

This week has seen our No 1 son go away fighting fires only to come home the next day due to wet weather. Thank you Lord for the rain and his safe return.

We picked our apricots this week and I stewed them with a little sugar. I preserved 6 bottles to store in the pantry for the coming months and I have some left in the fridge to enjoy this week.

This first preserving of the season is very exciting and I look forward to more to come.  We don’t have many fruit trees yet, that is a farm goal this year to plant at least 20 trees if we can.

In Australia we have our longer school holidays until February but I like to start earlier, so this week we will get going on music practice again and a little school.

I want to finish clearing up my creative space (a room we have that has our sewing machines, quilting machine, our No 1 sons gym and lots of other stuff).  This is a great space but it can really get away from me and I am nearly finished, then I have some quilting to do some mending of work jeans and some general sewing for the children.

They are growing so quickly that my No 2 son has often got a bare midriff which is definitely not a good look.

Ok enough about me now onto the Link up…

My encouragement to you this week is to try and encourage others, whether your children, husband or friends.  Maybe you could send a card or note to someone in your life who you know is having troubles or maybe give them a ring.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #12

Hello everyone, welcome back to Good Morning Mondays. Welcome to the New Year.  I am excited to see what God has for us in 2015 and where He is going to lead us.

15975879110_016cd9a7bf_q

We had a lovely New Years Eve get together with about 30 people from our church, mainly older couples.  We really enjoy getting together with these people and sharing our hearts and lives with them.  They are always interested in the children and what we are doing and we like to give them the best meal we can because we love blessing them.

My husband smoked some pork and beef roasts.  They were in the smoker for about 12 hours each and they were absolutely delicious and melt in the mouth.

They were all gone before midnight so we had it all cleaned up and were relaxing on the couch when the clocked ticked over into 2015, so it was very relaxing.

I must admit since then I have been a bit whacked and I am taking some time to catch up and get ready to start our new school year in a week.  I have got some new planners from a couple of wonderful blogs and I am looking at which one is going to help me be organised.

Our No 1 daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters have headed off on their grand adventure and you will be able to follow their journey here. They are heading to the outback of Australia by the end of January and my daughter has a humorous way of writing, so the journey will not be boring.  We will miss them while they are gone but 8 weeks is only a short period of the year and they should have a great time, see heaps and learn heaps.

We went to a wedding yesterday and had an enjoyable time.  It was the second time round for both and we pray that God will bless them as they blend their families together and learn to live with each other.  Weddings always make me remember my own and just how much I love my husband and how blessed I feel.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #9

Well another week has gone by and Christmas is fast approaching.  I enjoy this season, the getting together of family and friends to celebrate the birth of our Saviour.  I enjoy the children’s service on Christmas Eve where the children become part of the reason for this season.

Welcome to another Good Morning Mondays.  Last week was very productive in my world.  I started writing daily lists and found that this has helped me get everything done.  I cleaned out my outside pantry and moved around some freezers.  I did some baking, had a couple of get togethers with family friends, and made some more presents.

Our fish arrived and are in their tank, hopefully growing quickly.  It is really fascinating to watch them and we are really enjoying this side of it.

My men butchered a steer last night and it is hanging in the cool room that we hired.  We will cut it up later in the week along with 3 pigs.  This will keep us in meet for a few months.

The weather is warming up which is great for the vegetables and they are growing really quickly now.  I am looking forward to zucchinis this year and making zucchini pasta, yum.

What have you guys been up to?? Are you keeping everything under control as Christmas is coming.  Take a breath, have a cuppa and relax for some time each day, if only a few minutes, and while relaxing take the time to fellowship with our Saviour.

Now onto the link up.  I want to thank everyone who has been praying for Taylor McGinnis and I want to encourage everyone to read her story and keep on praying.

Click on her picture below to read her story.

thmb5487b8b247f2b

I was also touched by another story, this one I found on another link up and again I would encourage everyone to read about this family and pray for them and all they are facing on a daily basis.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #8

Welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays.  What’s been happening in your life this past week??

I have made biscuits and soap and helped my husband around the farm. Making soap and doing some baking was something I really wanted to mark off my list this week.

No 2 daughter and no 2 son got their results from the piano exams they did and they both got A’s or Honors.  This is great and they are both thrilled with the results and their certificates.

No 2 daughter got three firsts at the local show for her baking and No 1 son did very well with his shearing, placing 2nd in the intermediate group and getting Best Local Shearer.  Here he is with his ribbons

This coming week I want to start on some Christmas gifts and I am excited about this.  I have been blessed by some of the posts that I have found about home made gifts, so thank you everyone.

Please pray for Taylor McGinnis from So Much At Home

I want to encourage everyone to pop over and have a read about what Taylor is going through and take the time to pray for her and her family.  Thank you to Chris for sharing this with us and giving us the opportunity to pray for Taylor.

This really is the season to be flat out and hectic, trying to get everything finished before Christmas.  I know that I am starting to feel the pressure building, but I am trying to keep it down.  I want to encourage you all to stay calm and not get caught up in all the pressure and stress around us.

I want to remember to love those around me, care for those who have no one or are sick.  We should increase our prayer time and remember those who come to mind in our prayers.

I want to thank everyone who linked up and also to everyone who looked at the other posts.  I cannot express how this makes me feel, how happy and joyful I am that we are able to encourage each other in our daily struggles and joys.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #7

Welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays Link up.  I have had a good week and I hope you have too.

The weeks seems to be going by very quickly and the list in my head of things to do is not getting that much shorter, although I did sort out my linen press – knock that off the to-do list!!!

Last Monday my husband and I and our younger two children travelled to visit with our No 1 daughter and her children.

DSC_0576

We had a lovely day with them and you can see more and read more about that day here.

The rest of the week passed in a bit of a blur, but we did manage to start on Christmas cards and did all the other general things that seem to take up our days.

No 2 daughter and son had their piano exams this morning and it sounds like they went really well.  This is no 2 daughters 3rd exam but was the first one for no 1 son.  They were a bit nervous though but that all seems to be part of it.  They are both very happy that it is over now :-).

We finally got the aquaponics system up and running and ready for the fish coming next week.  We have planted some vegetables too, which is very exciting for us.  We have been working on this for about 12 months now.

This week I want to do some Christmas baking, fruit cakes, yo yo’s etc, then I will post some away to relatives.

I am determined to get some soap made this week and I am actually going to write a list and cross things off as I achieve them (sounds good….)

Thank you for all your link ups, I am really enjoying reading them.  I am not quite finished with them all yet so I won’t do my personal favourite this week.

thmb54720a43273abThank you ladies for sharing your hearts with us, and thanks to everyone for taking the time to link up, I really appreciate it.

I want to encourage everyone this week to remember the reason for the season that is fast approaching us.  I am not saying don’t give presents, or don’t have a tree or whatever else you have and do, I am just saying to remember that we celebrate Christmas because of Jesus, not santa or presents or food, but because of our Saviour.

So let’s get the link up started, please link up any posts that relate to God and christian living – especially encouraging or challenging posts, also recipes, crafts, gardening or homesteading as you call it in America and just plain old country living here in Australia.

I’d love to hear about how you celebrate Christmas, who you spend it with, do you open your homes to people who have no one???

May your week be full of God’s love and may He lead and guide you each day.
