GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #104

Hey there everyone, welcome back to our weekly Good Morning Mondays Link Up.

Have you had a great week??

We started our week attending the funeral of our dear friend Mr H. It was a great time of remembering him and his humour, a sad time to realise we won’t see him until we meet in Heaven. Our pastor preached a powerful gospel sermon and it was just wonderful.

It was a really hot day and we finally got a reprieve with a cool change mid afternoon which was really nice. Since then the rest of the week has been much cooler. It’s so hard and we try not to complain but when we haven’t had hot weather for such a long time it is hard to adjust – but we will, eventually.

Our vegetable garden is going well and the corn is coming up nicely.20161123_155745I have been out with my hoe and I have been scratching around all the tomato seedlings so that the weeds don’t get away on me, and it is working well.

We had a magnificent sunset the other night and it was on to see who could get a better photo, me or our no 1 son. He did win but mine looked pretty awesome too.img_20161121_204129We’ve been doing school as well this week and have moved on now to Jacob and Leah and Rachel in our Bible program. I’ve read these chapters before but when you read them to your children and need to discuss it, it really comes to life and we are enjoying it.

We have a few birthdays around at the moment. Our son-in-laws was on Thursday, our no 1 daughters is on Tuesday and my husbands is on Wednesday, then in a couple of weeks we have our no 2 sons birthday. So we all got together in Halls Gap on Saturday afternoon for a BBQ and a game of mini golf. It was great fun and a wonderful time together.

img_20161126_143614

I also got the okay from our son-in-law to try and find our no 1 daughter a milking goat. I was so excited and it took some searching, some disappointment and a wonderful connection with a lovely christian lady.

Our daughters milking goat “Coco” and her kids

She had exactly what we wanted and even delivered it for us. We are looking forward to seeing how it all goes.

I have been busy trying to figure out sock knitting and I finally did it. The picture below is the first pair I made for my husband out of some wool I had here. They are pretty thick but it was a great way to learn and follow a rather easy pattern.  I’ve just finished another pair for our son-in-law for his birthday and they are thinner. 20161118_224222I really enjoy these old crafts, it makes me feel very pioneering.

We have had some issues with a bearing in the front wheel of our car and my husband managed to get it fixed this week. Our no 2 son really enjoyed helping him and having a go of the raddle gun.  He is learning so much from his father and it’s wonderful to watch it.

On Sunday we went to church with some homeschooling friends and then got together for a lunch and afternoon of fellowship. It is wonderful to spend time with like minded people and the children love catching up with all their friends.

I hope you all had a magnificent Thanksgiving. We don’t typically celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia but it’s a wonderful tradition – to take time to be thankful for all the Lord has done for us.

This coming week is a nice home one and hopefully a quiet one. We need to start making Christmas Cards and get them written out and addressed and sent out in early December. I don’t want to get behind this year.

I have a few Christmas gifts I want to make in the coming weeks and there is always plenty of baking to do as well. I’m not sure yet what we are doing for Christmas, we are just waiting to hear what our son-in-law and daughter are doing.

We will be keeping on with school and music practice and I’m hoping to not take too much time off this year, hopefully only a couple of weeks. I say this every year and it doesn’t always happen, so maybe this is the year.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #103

Hey there everyone, welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays Link Up.

We had a busy gardening week and the weather is finally warming up some. When I see all you Northern Hemisphere folk starting your wood heaters and using your vegetables to make comforting warming stews I feel I small jolt of unbelief that our winter has gone.

I try and enjoy all the seasons but I so enjoy winter and keeping warm and cosy and being able to do heaps more inside jobs. Summer is good but it is definitely an outside time of the year.

We’ve been planting our tomatoes this week and managed to get them all in by Saturday afternoon. We also put in about 30 capsicums and 30 celery seedlings as well. I am hoping to dry the produce from them this year as it was great just grabbing a jar of dried vegetables and using it in soups and stews in the winter.

img_20161115_175506Here are a couple rows of tomatoes, in the end we had 6 rows, that’s almost 500 tomato seedlings. We are hoping to preserve heaps again this coming year and sell some at our roadside stall. The season is late and there is talk of rain right through January but only God knows what is going to happen so we put them in with hope and prayer.

Our 2nd granddaughter

We spent last Sunday with our son-in-law, daughter and their children and we had a great time. It is always fun to get together, eat, talk and play.  They always enjoy having granddad around to tickle them.

I have been having a craving to use my dehydrator lately so I dried some of my sourdough bread into crumbs. This was just great and now I have them on the shelf ready to use whenever I want them.
img_20161115_140920I mentioned a couple weeks earlier that I was crochetting a bathmat for us out of fabric scraps, well I haven’t finished that one yet but I finished a rug for a friends birthday. So it is finally gifted so I can share it.20161116_132523I was really pleased with how it turned out and the colours look great, the photo doesn’t really do it justice. It is only a smaller size one for maybe beside her bed, but I’m sure she’ll find a place for it.  I so enjoy making things for gifts and I especially enjoy giving them.

Last Sunday’s message was on Jonah, only half the first chapter but we have been discussing this during our nightly studies. It’s an amazing story and I know I said to the children that it’s only 4 chapters in the bible but Veggie Tales got a whole 90 min DVD out of it. They thought this was funny.

We’ve gone from Abraham who was so obedient in taking Isaac to be sacrificed and Jonah who ran from God because he didn’t want to deliver the Lord’s message. Such good discussions this brings up.

Our dear friend Mr H passed away on Tuesday night. I want to thank all of you who have been praying for him and his family. His funeral is on Monday afternoon so I ask that you pray for comfort for his family and friends at this time.

My husband saw him on Saturday week ago in hospital and he was going to be coming home on the Monday but by Tuesday night he was gone. He went really quickly but we are glad that he didn’t have to suffer in pain for long.

Thank you for stopping by and linking up. What a great array of posts there are to enjoy.

Okay this week is the usual although we have our friends funeral on Monday afternoon.

I have been trying to clean up some garden beds around the house and we have been doing a bit most days and they are coming along well. I need to start keeping an eye on the veggies and keep the weeds under control out there and not let it get away on me and then it is a huge job.

The children are coming along with their piano so it’s more practice and more school. I was thinking of changing our days around as it warms up and get outside in the morning and back inside in the afternoon for book work, but we’ll see.

The chickens are growing and will soon out grow their pen so my husband and I have been thinking of where to put them.

Everything is on the move around here and it is exciting, everything is growing and changing.

I hope this week to move on with our Bible program and see what happens next to Jacob and Esau and we might do a bit more on Jonah at nights too.

Next Saturday we are meeting our son-in-law, daughter and children in Halls Gap for a BBQ and maybe a game of mini golf. We have 4 birthdays in the next few weeks, our son-in-law, no 1 daughter, my husband and then our no 2 son in mid December. So it’s a birthday get together.

Also another update and thank you for those of you who have been praying for Jotham. He came home from hospital in Melbourne on Saturday. It seems his issues were medication related. He has some improving to do but God is definitely in control and cares for that little boy and can do great things with him. Please continue to pray for his improvement.

I pray that you will have a blessed week my friends and may God lead and guide you in your everyday life.

WEDNESDAY WISDOM SEARCHING #6 TAKING OUR THOUGHTS CAPTIVE

Welcome back to our monthly link up…

wisdom search4Once again I wonder where the last month has gone. Time is passing and I think that each month it will be the status quo.

Our last months topic was on CONTENTMENT and I am thankful for those of you who stopped by and linked up or left me a comment. I am still working on CONTENTMENT, but I think like most things in my life, it is a work in progress.

This months topic is…

TAKING OUR THOUGHTS CAPTIVE

and just as I was contemplating this topic for the month, I was challenged on it.

Isn’t that just the way… We had an issue with an extended family member that left us very disappointed and here I am needing now to put this topic into practice.

Why do I need to put it into practice??? If I don’t I will allow this problem to build up in me and I will find myself thinking on what has happened and I will be having conversations in my mind about what I would have liked to say.

Now don’t get me wrong, we should try and reconcile the issue as well and we have taken steps to do this but that doesn’t stop my mind ticking over. It’s that spaghetti brain I guess and the way I am wired.

I first picked this topic after discussion with a dear friend of mine and some scripture that she shared with me.

Philippians 4:8-9  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.  The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

There you go whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure… etc etc MEDITATE ON THESE THINGS.

Now at the moment I am struggling to mediate on anything other than the situation that we’ve been challenged with and truly, it isn’t honouring God to be thinking the way I am.

I need to take hold of my thoughts – take them captive and bring them into the obedience of Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

I need to focus on what is good and lovely and pure and I find, especially when I start having conversation with people in my head that God convicts me and I stop and I pray for those people. I ask God to bless them and prosper them and give them good health.

But… I fail so often and fall into my old ways, mainly I think because they are so comfortable. No one wants to bless someone who has hurt them, it’s not always an easy thing to do, but it is important to give our whole lives and all our thoughts to God.

God is our “go to” in all situations and unless we are actively taking our thoughts captive, God stops being our “go to” and becomes our “sometimes” or “whenever it suits” and we become our own “go to”.

How do you handle TAKING YOUR THOUGHTS CAPTIVE???

How do you focus on Christ instead of the problems and issues in your life???

I would love to hear from you this month on this topic and if you don’t have a post to link up please leave me your thoughts in the comment section, I need all the help I can get.

Also please forgive me if I delete your post if it doesn’t relate to our topic for the month.  Please feel free to pop over to our Good Morning Mondays Link Up each week if you have something else you would like to share.

Have a great month and I look forward to hearing from you.

Blessings to you all xxxxx

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #102

Welcome back to our Good Morning Mondays Link Up.  How have you all been going and what have you been up to this past week???

I’ve been sitting here wondering what I have been doing all week and I can’t think. I know we did piano practice and my husband was home for a few days so that sort of mucks me up a bit, not that I mind having him home, it’s great, but my routine sort of goes wonky.

The children’s Bible program has been working through Genesis and we are up to around chapter 22. We’ve read about Abraham’s total faith and trust in God when he was asked by God to sacrifice Isaac. We also read about the favouritism that Isaac and Rebecca had regarding their sons Esau and Jacob.

It led to interesting conversations around the tea table at night as we re-read each scripture and discussed it as a family. We have our no 1 son home at the moment and it’s great to hear his opinion on these scriptures as well.

Things around the farm are motoring along and our rabbits are going well. I am becoming quite fond of them and enjoy visiting them a couple times a day to check their feed. img_20161110_224243This is one of our bucks and he’s been named Gilbert. He’s probably the most friendly.

My husbands big job this week was to get the crop in and he achieved it. He’s planted barley and rape (summer feed) so that we will have green feed for our stock during the summer. We used to bale hay but have decided to do it this way to see how it goes.20161110_170704We are blessed to have tractors and machinery so that we can get these jobs done.

It was also one of his aims to get the tomatoes in but due to cold, wet weather that didn’t happen but we got the area prepared so we will be ready to go this coming week. The ground is all worked up and he managed to get the mesh fencing completed too which will support the tomatoes as they grow. img_20161111_154407We got some strawberries planted in our aquaponics system. Some have been planted in the grow beds and some in horizontal pipes with water flowing through them. They are standing up nicely which is good, we have lost a couple but that seems to be the way.img_20161109_090103

We’ve been milking full bore lately and I’ve been making cheese to catch up on our stores. Our no 2 daughter has been giving her dad a hand each morning and she is really starting to come along with the cattle and enjoys working with them. She even names them all and remembers their names. 20161107_071931She is growing up into a lovely young lady and is very helpful around the house and the farm.  Our no 2 son is in charge of the eggs and it is his job each evening to collect them and make sure everything is going okay in the chook house. He helps get the cows in too and always remembers where things are, quite amazing really.

We are spending Sunday with our son-in-law, daughter and their family. We will go to church with them and then spend the afternoon together. I get to a certain point and I’ve got to see them all because I miss them and the grandchildren are growing up so quickly.

Okay enough about our goings on, onto our link up…

I’m asking again for you to pray for our friends little boy Jotham. He is still having some difficulties and is in hospital at the moment. Please pray for the doctors and his family as well.

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #101

Hi there everyone, welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays Link Up.

We are excited here at the moment, the sun has been shining, the tractor has been working and our no 1 daughter has grown our tomato seedlings (and some others as well) and we can get them in the ground this week.20161104_080839We have 500 tomato seedlings hardening up outside and 50 capsicum seedlings as well. It has been so wet here we wondered at times if we would ever get anything planted, but God is good to us and it has dried up enough to get the ground worked up.

Friday was an absolutely beautiful day, the sun was shining, it was almost warm but with a pleasant cool breeze.

We moved the little chicks onto the lawn in a bigger pen, they are growing so quickly. We still have lights on for them because the nights are still quite cool and it was really quite cold on Saturday but they are still enjoying the ability to move around and get out in the sunshine when it is there.20161104_105040We were also blessed to be able to purchase some pure bred roosters on Saturday morning.  There is this boy in town, I would say he was about 11 or 12 and he is incubating eggs and selling pure bred hens and roosters. There isn’t much call on the roosters so we get them at a very reasonable price but he can’t keep the supply of hens filled.  20161105_115439We got 5 white leghorns and 1 australorp and they are nice healthy birds.

My husband has been home most of the week and has been able to get lots of work done around the farm.  Our no 2 son has been sick all week and it only just starting to improve. It was unusual for him to still be in bed at 9 am and not wanting to eat but hopefully he will keep improving over the coming week and we can get some school work done.

At nights I have been working on my rag rug and I am really enjoying it as it grows. I like the randomness of colours and patterns, and this one is in blue, pink and white tones.20161104_165948I am hoping to use this as a bath mat and I want to make a couple for Christmas presents as well.

With our no 1 son home for a few months my husband and I have been able to get out occasionally for a cuppa. We tied a trip to town to pick up tomato seedlings and a cuppa this week and it was nice to just be together and chat. We spent some time on our front veranda on Friday enjoying the sunshine and watching the chickens on the lawn, we enjoy these times together.

We had the children’s piano lessons on Saturday morning as usual and they are going really well. Our no 2 daughter is starting to show maturity in her playing and her teacher has been very pleased. They have lovely pieces this time as well and they are nice to listen to as they practice.

I am now on Instagram and if you would like to follow me over there just look up @country_homeschooling_grandma. I’m sorry but I haven’t figured out the buttons to put on the blog yet, but I’m still there if you are interested.

So enough about our week and onto our link up…

Thanks everyone for stopping by and linking up, I hope to see you all here again next week.

I have another quiet week again this coming week, I really enjoy my time at home and not having to be running around in town.

I’m hoping to get some school work done and we obviously have heaps of tomato seedlings to plant and we want to do that this week also.

Thank you for praying for our friends little son Jotham,  your prayers are appreciated. His problems are still continuing and now he needs to go to Melbourne to see doctors there. This is hard and very unsettling for their family and children and I ask again that you pray for them all and their doctors so that they can get things sorted.

I have still been thinking on CONTENTMENT and look forward to hearing from you at our monthly link up …wisdom search4Also remember you don’t have to link up, but I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section, so stop over if you get the time.
