WHY AM I SO SOPPY???

Our oldest daughter says that I am soppy and mushy and well, I just can’t help it.

I am 47 years old and married to the best man ever, I have 4 children here and 2 babies waiting in Heaven, 2 granddaughters and another grandchild on the way.

I never thought that I would ever get married, let alone have children and grandchildren.  I never thought that there would be the perfect man for me, but I have been so blessed.

We have had some terribly tough years and those when we were first married were the hardest, but we stayed true to each other and with God we battled our way through them and now, well boy it’s great.

My husband and I have been through the loss of two babies, one miscarriage and one stillbirth, and that alone has softened our hearts.

You may think that I am mushy but he is much worse, but I just love that about him. I love that the loss of our children has meant as much to him as to me and that he was able to share his pain with me. Through this time we have grown so much closer.

We have a grown son who is a delight and I am still privileged to homeschool two more children for at least another 10 years. I really thought I would be an empty nester and if God didn’t have his way I would have been.

Now none of our children or ourselves are perfect – we are so far from it that you can only see perfection through strongly adjusted binoculars, and those binoculars are held by Jesus through which God sees us.14476534727_7e0a744eca_q

He has blessed us abundantly, not with wealth or ready money, but with each other and the means to help others.

That’s what life is all about, God, family and others, not about riches of gold or a big bank balance.

So if all of the above makes me soppy and mushy, well so be it.

I apologise to all of you who have to read my soppy posts and and I’m sorry oldest daughter but I will continue to write great things about you and your wonderful family, your father and siblings because in Jesus’ eyes and mine you are all just perfect.

  1. There is nothing wrong at all with soppy!! 🙂 You and hubby a wonderful example for your children and grandchildren, and from what you write you show a loving marriage and caring for one another that is genuine.

In this world of single parents and multiple marriages, you stand out as a shining light. 🙂 Stay soppy!

      1. I enjoy reading your posts! I don’t get a lot of time to sit and think out posts and actually write them much here lately, I’m going to have to force a moment to do them. I miss it!

Your posts come to my email first thing in the mornings, and it seems early Sunday morning I have them waiting for me while I drink coffee and wait on the tribe to wake up. That makes it easy to sit and read with a full caffeine tank! 🙂

        1. Oh I am glad that you can grab a few moments to sit with your coffee and enjoy my posts, it makes me smile to know that you wake up to my opinions on a Sunday morning, what a great way to start the day ;-). Blessings
PS. I enjoy reading yours too, but I can understand the time restraints, I look forward to them when you get the time.

  2. Oh, I have a forever 20 year old dancing with Jesus in Heaven. I think I just felt so much compassion for you.

May I invite you to “join the dance” each Friday at #DanceWithJesus linkup on my blog? If so, head over to SusanBMead.com/blog-2

    1. Oh Susan, that must have been so hard but what a blessing to know that he is with Jesus, this is such a comfort. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your heart and for the invite, I will pop over and have a look. Blessings to you.

  3. Oh, my! I know how you feel about being soppy! Our son and I often have a conversation that goes like this… “Mama, I’m worried about you.” “Why, Zach?” “Because you cry over everything!” I just can’t help it….I tell him that God has made my heart soft. Going through deep, fiery trials will do that to a person, won’t it? I thank God for you, sweet friend, just the way you are. You are so compassionate and loving, and the result of your trials has made you more like Jesus. Don’t ever change. 🙂

    1. Thank you Cheryl for your lovely comments, and I have similar conversations with our oldest son too. The other day we sat and watched a serial DVD that he said wasn’t sad, but it was, so I was crying and telling him off for allowing me to watch it, then he starts to tell me about another one in the series that was even sadder and then he had us both crying. We went to bed then, and I warn him now, not to put the sad ones on. What a wonderful relationship you have with your son, they are such a blessing. xxxx

    1. Thank you so much Nannette for your lovely comment and for your blessings. I really enjoyed you post about the letter to your son, they all sound like wonderful boys and so does your daughter-in-law. Thanks and blessings

  4. Oh I love this… but then again, I am ‘soppy’ too! I actually ministered at a women’s retreat years ago and at the end all of the attendee’s prayed over us and one of them declared that I was “Gooey for Jesus”… that sort of stuck! Someone even made me a tshirt that said that! 😉

    1. Oh that would be a cute t-shirt!! Thanks Karrilee for stopping by and encouraging me with your comment, I appreciate it and I hope you have a great “Gooey for Jesus” week. Blessings

  5. There is nothing wrong with a tender heart – especially when it involves being thankful for all God has given us. I totally relate! Swinging by from #testimonytuesday.

  6. Soppy and mushy are perfect! I’m one myself, too. And I’m so thankful for everything I can be soppy and mushy about. God has been so good to me, how I could not feel His goodness in my heart and be changed by it.

  7. OH MY GOODNESS. You literally speak the words from my heart. I tell everyone all the time that I am a big crier! Anything related to God’s grace and His goodness, I just cry my eyes out. You are definitely not alone.

  8. It’s so true that the first years of marriage can be so hard – more young people need to hear that, to know they’re not alone. I think soppiness is a valuable asset, especially as we age and life comes at us in all its forms. Thanks for linking with #SmallWonder.

  9. LOL! I had to laugh because my kids I think I’m the biggest moosh ball. They say I cry about everything which is mostly true but only the good stuff. Can I help it if they’re so darn lovable? I mean really! It’s okay though because in the end they are the ones scooting over close to snuggle with me so…they secretly love it. #SoppyRules.

  10. Hey, I read your posts all over the place (today at Fellowship Friday) and I don’t find you soppy at all! In fact, I think you have a strong faith in a BIG God. I’m surprised, also, at all the similarities in our stories . . . homeschooling the “remnant” while the grand babies come, startled and amazed that I ever married in the first place, very thankful that I did, and also thankful for my sensitive and loving husband! Blessings on your weekend!

    1. Thank you Michele for your encouraging comment, it is wonderful to know that someone understands and has experienced similar things in life. Sounds like you have a wonderful husband as well and this is such a blessing. Have a great weekend and see you next week. Blessings
