As I have said before my go to desert for visitors is apple crumble. Mostly I do this in the oven but the other day I wanted to try it in my crock pot (slow cooker) to see if it would work.
Ingredients
- 8 apples
- water
- sultanas – hand full
- brown sugar – 1/2 cup
- mixed berries – 1 cup
for the crumble
- plain flour – 2 cups
- brown sugar – 1/2 cup
- rolled oats – 1 cup
- shortening – enough to make mixture crumbly
Take the apples and core them and cut them in half and score the skin. Place them skin side down in your slow cooker. Mix together raisins and brown sugar and sprinkle over the top, then place the mixed berried on top of this. Put enough water to come half way up the sides of the apples.
For the crumble: mix together the flour, sugar and rolled oats, add the shortening and mix until crumbly. Place this on top of the apples and turn your cooker onto high. This will take about 2-3 hours.
Serve with cream or ice cream.
PS: I’m sorry but I am a sort of chuck it in and mix it type of cook with not a lot of measuring happening. You really can’t go wrong with this recipe, just add more or less depending on how many people you are serving and how sweet you want it. Also you can peel the apples if you want.
