How do you feel about your home. It is just a place that needs to be cleaned and where you sleep at night. Or is it your haven, your sanctuary away from a busy and noisy world.
One of my favourite sayings is..
A house is built of brick and stone, a home is built on love alone.
Our home is built of brick but the inside is full of love.
Our home still needs cleaning and the clothes still need washing. There is ironing, and dusting and vacuuming, mopping and sweeping. There are beds to make and pillows to fluff, oh and the toilets need cleaning. The spiders find our home a great place to live so there are always webs to wipe down and dirty fingerprints to wipe off the walls.
Our home is just a normal place, with books in bookcases and accordians on show (maybe this isn’t normal).
Music flows from our home as our children practice their piano and sometimes it is sweet and sometimes not.
Sometimes you will hear raised voices – sorry we aren’t perfect, and then sometimes you will hear the soft voices of repentence and forgiveness.
If you are here for a meal you will hear the words of thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father who provides all our needs.
Hopefully, most of all you will know when you step into our home that this is where love abides. Love for each other and for those we care for.
Psalm 26:8 O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells.
Ephesians 3:17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
We were just saying tonight after coming home from a very frustrating experience how thankful we are for home. Inside these walls, I find great comfort and peace. Home is definitely where my heart is.

Home is definitely where mine is too. After being gone all day running errands or dealing with stressful issues, it’s nice to see the big gray house and come in to sink into the couch or grab a cup of coffee and just be where we can relax. It’s not perfect, it’s not spotless, but lived in and made “home”. The boards and walls don’t make the home, but the family inside.

We have been in our home 38 years. I miss it when I’m not there and worry about it like it is my child.
It’s a tiny ranch but it has a huge heart that comforts us.

Yes, I know exactly how you feel and it is nice to meet so many kindred souls! With many hectic meetings, rushing to and fro…there is no better place to be than in my chair with a book, beside the hearth, listening to the clock on the mantel slowly tick the time away and gong on the hour, with my husband in his chair across from mine…..absorbed in his sudoko, but listening and nodding to my stray comments. There is such a sweetness in this slowness. Thank you for this good reminder!

Sometimes I get ants in my pants to move. Then the season shifts, and I fall in love with my house all over again. It’s a complicated relationship! Lol But you are right, so important to have that safe space.

I love the fact that God allows us to make a home for our sweet families. Instead of luxurious furnishings I want guest to feel the love in our house and know that we love each other and God here. By the number of comments this post must have struck a cord. I know our home is a haven for me. Since my children are all grown and I now work full time outside the home, I don’t get to be there nearly as much as I wish! So it is precious time for me.
My husband and I love to be home. We don’t have to do anything special. It’s good to just be sitting side by side, reading or watching some of the few shows worth watching.

Wow Donna, when do you get time to do all your posts with working full time, you are amazing. I totally understand then why your time at home is so precious to you. I also enjoy just sitting with my husband, sometimes he plays his banjo or we watch something on DVD, these are my favourite times with him. Yes we had Mother’s Day here to on Sunday and my children did spoil me really well and I had a great day. This just made me smile because it is this paradigm we need to consider as we purpose to buikd our home, a multi-faceted prism that shines bright because of HIS light shining through. Our home has many similar views that you have allowed me to glimose in your own. :)The sound of repentance is exceptionally beautiful to my ears.
