GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #99

Hi there everyone, welcome back to Darling Downs Diaries and our weekly Good Morning Mondays Link Up.

I’ve had a nice, quiet week at home and it’s been good to catch up after such a busy weekend butchering.

We have started smoking the hocks and bacon and will hopefully have that finished by mid week.

Hocks nearly finished smoking.

All the other meat is put away in the freezer and now I’m having troubles deciding what to eat each night for dinner – haha not really. It’s just so wonderful to have such a choice.

I ran out of wool for my husband’s jumper and they didn’t have any left in town but I managed to find some online. I ordered a couple of balls and finally finished my it. It is a great fit and it’s been so cold here this weekend he was able to wear it and it kept him lovely and warm.img_20161021_203732I am now knitting a jumper for our no 2 daughter and will be making our son-in-law one for Christmas, but I won’t get it finished by then. I found the pattern I want to make, now just to get a nice colour wool for him.

I’m thinking of crocheting some rag rugs. I was given a heap of quilting fabric pieces, and I think I will cut them up and give it a go. It will be fairly multi-coloured but I’ll try one and see how I go. I will keep you all updated.

My husband spent some time on Friday cleaning up the fish tanks in our aquaponics system. Now the water is really clear and we can see the fish swimming around.
20161021_152059This is a Silver Perch. We have about 80 of them, they are really slow growing but their manure feeds our vegetables.
img_20161021_131747Hopefully we will harvest this broccoli soon as it is looking really good.img_20161018_180429They also did some stock work this week and moved all our cattle into the one paddock so the dairy calves can be joined again. It took them a while to settle down but now they are all happy.img_20161020_102437Everyone was home every night this week and I only went to town for piano lessons and church.

We are getting meat rabbits this week, hopefully the weather will clear up enough for us to get out and set the area up for them. We have had over an inch of rain this and it is cold again. We have days of lovely weather but the talk is it is going to rain until mid January, so a lovely green summer is on it’s way.

Okay enough, onto our link up…

Thanks everyone for stopping by and linking up, I hope you were blessed by your visit.

I have another quiet week this week, I’m not planning on going out at all until the weekend. We don’t even have piano lessons on Saturday because our teacher is away but my husband is thinking of going to The Lake Goldsmith Open Day which happens twice a year. It’s a great event with old motors and displays, lots of fun.

Also a reminder about our monthly link up…wisdom search4

This month’s topic is on CONTENTMENT and I hope to hear from you over there.

Also remember you don’t have to link up, but I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section, so stop over if you get the time.

I have been doing a lot of thinking on contentment and I guess that’s why it is this month’s topic. Are we always looking at what we want or are we content with where God has us??

Our friends little boy Jotham has some health issues and is in hospital at the moment and your prayers would be appreciated at this time for him and his family.

Thank you and I pray that you will have a blessed week my friends and may God lead and guide you in your everyday life.

Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.”

Blessings to you all xxxx

  1. It is always a pleasure to get a peek into your life in the country, Terri. A few weeks ago I thought I couldn’t cut living in the country because I have no basic skills necessary for survival. City living ruins a person like that! But this week I realize it’s not for me (as much as I wish it was) because I can’t sew to save my life. And I’m allergic to wool! 🙂 Blessings on your week at home. May you have lots of contentment and time with the Lord. xoxo

    1. Hey there Nicki, Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I was born and raised in a large city and only came to the country when I married my husband over 27 years ago. There wasn’t much I knew then but I learnt. When we were first married we were on a large farm now we live on a small one and we can do lots of little things which makes more work but more fun. My husband and I have and are learning heaps together.Have a great weekend and may you also find contentment with God. Blessings xxxx

  2. I’m not sure about the hocks but I’d love a piece of that bacon. 🙂 Yes, such a blessing to have a choice for what to eat. Thanks for sharing my link on “Now”! I appreciate you, Terri.

    1. Hey there Lisa, smoked hocks are delicious. We mainly use them for soup but the other night I put them in the pressure cooker and then cut the meat off and added the meat to a rice dish, it was yummo. Thanks for stopping by each week and it was my pleasure to feature your post. Have a great weekend. Blessings
