Here we are another week gone by and we are speeding towards May. May is such a lovely month, winter is coming and hopefully some rain, the nights are really cooling off and the days can be bright and sunny or blurry with rain, either way they are good.
Welcome back to another Good Morning Mondays Link Up. I hope you have all had a good week and that you will face this week remembering to focus on God first and other stuff second.
I have had a quiet week at home, and didn’t achieve any of the sewing I wanted to do, but we did get all our school work and music practice done.
Our younger two children are playing a duet in the local eisteddfod in 5 weeks and they have worked hard to get the music together. We achieved this and now they are working at perfecting it and listening to each other. It sounds just wonderful and when I work it out I will put it up here for you all to see.
The children picked some more tomatoes and I did notice some more out there today so they will pick them tomorrow but I don’t know how many more we will get, but we will pick them happily.
The were quite a few red ones and a bowl of green ones that I hope will turn red. They look good anyway.
We spent some time with our friends Mr and Mrs H this past week, enjoying a quick meal together before the men had a meeting. I then sat with Mrs H and we chatted away for a few hours.
We discussed everything from schooling (she was a teacher) to cooking and recipes. She generously lent me some games that she had made years ago for her class that encourages reading and memory work. The children were excited when we brought the box inside and I am sure they are going to enjoy them this week.
They are going to join us for tea later this week on their way home from Mr H’s specialist appointment. Please remember them in your prayers as they face more testing, and scans.
We have had roaming piglet problems this past week and they seemed to always head for the main road. We had numerous drivers stop in to tell us and we finally managed to corral them all and get them sorted. This did take all of us out there standing in strategic places to stop them getting out. They are now happy and settled with their mothers and are secure in their pen.
Here they are having a good feed, I just love the way that stack in.
It’s been quite a cold weekend but my husband was able to get some work done on his work vehicle and the children were able to give him a hand, feeding wires etc.
There seems to be a great pleasure that comes from helping Dad out and being with him.

I am so glad that us chasing piglets made your day, it wasn’t particularly funny at the time 🙂 and when we were trying to capture them it wasn’t one of our best moments 🙂 definitely NOT writing a post on that one!!! They are so cute but I am so glad they are contained now it would have been awful if they would have gotten run over. I am interested to see what you teach your daughter to sew first, I started with just stitching through a couple of layers of fabric to practice sewing straight first. Which reminds me to tidy up my creative space so my daughter and I can fit in there together. This afternoons job is definitely mending my husbands work trousers – out of need not desire :-). OH! Those pictures of tomatoes ripening make me want to go dig in my garden. Snow just melted last week, however, and the cold spring air is hovering over a sea of mud. Your pictures will keep me thinking spring until it really happens here in Maine! Thanks for hosting the linkup today!

Those green tomatoes look great for fried green tomatoes, batter dipped and sweet. 😀 Or green tomato bread.
We’re looking forward to the tomatoes, as in they’re in the ground as of yesterday, about 30 plants. It’s enough for Papa, us, and half the neighborhood. I just brought in Thursday about 3 stuffed grocery bags full of lettuce and spinach, that after washed and trimmed turned into about 7 or 8 gallon bags stuffed full of salad. I’m growing long ears and a cotton ball tail. 🙂 Upside, can eat huge bowls of it without worrying about calories! My inner glutton is thrilled. 🙂
Holler when you want some warm weather, we’ll try to send some your way–we’ll have plenty to send by late June or early July!
Do you sell any of your piglets or raise them up for the freezer?
An Eisteddfod is a music competition, they have all types of instruments and singing and a whole week of dancing. Our children only play in the piano sections.
We don’t do fried green tomatoes here, but apart from green tomato pickle, what can you do with them if they don’t ripen. Thanks for the suggestion and the green tomato bread, I am going to look up recipes now. Your greens sounds just great and also sounds like you have heaps and they are so healthy.
I will definitely holler when I feel like warm weather. We could really use some rain and we really haven’t had our autumn break yet, the farmers are starting to get edgey now. Some days are quite sunny and very pleasant but the breeze is definitely cooler.
We hope to sell most of our piglets and keep maybe 6 for the freezer, but sometimes we have a lot to butcher, but either way we make money or we save it.

Salsas and relishes are good to make with green tomatoes too. One year we had lots of them just with 4 plants, and did the fried tomatoes and tomato bread. A good “tried and true” list is at Taste of Home, they do a magazine, books, and cooking schools all over the US.

I wish we could send you some of our rains, we’ve had lots of it in small amounts of time, and are expecting a good 7 days worth of storms in the coming week that this time of year puts out a good amount of rain. In a month or so they’ll cut down, but for now our yards runneth over. The crops love it.
