GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #143

WELCOME BACK

to our

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS LINK UP

Hi there all! and welcome back to our weekly link up. How have you all been?

I usually start this post off with the weather and it’s unusual habits for each time of the year, but the weather has been usually unusual so I won’t go there :-).

As I say each week we are going through Hebrews on a Sunday morning and it has been eye opening.  Each week we learn more and more about God and His ways for us and His plans and are thankful for the Word that He has given us to follow.

Our children have been attending Bible class and the discussions we are having are amazing. We are reading to them from the book Trial and Triumph about early church history and we are all learning so much.

Apart from all that we have had a quieter week due to the fact that my husband has had the flu and the children have had colds. Our routine has been all out of whack but I’m looking forward to next week when we get it all back again.

My husband and our younger two children have been working on getting the orchard sorted and have planted the apple root stocks. There are pear and stone fruit root stocks to go but they are well on their way. My husband has been busy getting it all documented and it’ll be a plan that we build on.He has them sorted into fruiting periods – early, mid and late. We are all excited about this orchard, it’s finally all coming together. The weather dried up enough later in the week for the men to put posts out for berry trellising and fences and again that is something that has needed to happen. We had our last pottery session for the school term and we were able to bring home some of our finished items. Our daughter is really getting the hang of making bowls but they are still drying and awaiting the kiln. Our early pots look basic but it’s nice to bring them home and use them.

I was excited to finally get onto my butter dish and it turned out really well. Below is a picture of the lid and I made the handle to look like a curl of butter (hopefully).  I am making this out of terracotta clay which is stronger and holds it’s shape really well. The base is looking good too and I’m hoping that it all holds together until we get back next term. If it all works out I might make another couple (because we have enough bowls coming) and I might try a vase or two in the terracotta as well.

We had a young people’s BBQ and Bonfire night on Friday night after Bible Class and the children really enjoyed that. It was a lovely warm day and a bonfire is always exciting, especially with marshmellows.

Saturday was our last piano lesson for the term and that went well and Saturday afternoon the grass was dry enough for my husband to get some lawn mowed. We had a couple from church for tea on Saturday night and we always enjoy the fellowship of like minded people.

These friends need your prayer if you can. The husband has lung cancer and starts radiation and chemotherapy on Monday in Melbourne. It will be a full on six weeks of treatment for them and we ask that you pray that they will feel God’s peace and comfort at all times, we also ask that God be glorified through all of this. Also pray for us as a family to know how to help and when to stand back.

Another prayer request is for the Same Sex Marriage Plebiscite that is happening at the moment in Australia. The voting papers are out and we are praying that Christians will rise up and vote no on the papers. This isn’t the time to be silent, and we ask that you pray and stand with us during this time. The battle is fierce here in Australia at the moment.

Thank you everyone for stopping by and linking up and if it was your first time here, welcome to Darling Downs Diaries.

So as I said this week I’m hoping to get our routine back, school and music practice. Although it’s technically school holidays we won’t be stopping but pushing on. We’ll do other stuff as well, like make a volcano for Geography (all outside).

We have small cauliflowers forming in the raised beds and the cabbages are starting to come together. The broccoli is heading in the aquaponic system so it’s all go. We are now starting to think about our spring garden and what we are going to grow but we need to be careful because we can have frosts here until November. We may put some seedlings until plastic to protect them until then.

My husband will be back at work this week and hopefully the weather will be conducive to working outdoors otherwise it can be difficult.

We have a curry night this week at church and we are looking forward to that. We are all taking a curry and we have a lovely Indian couple who will make some authentic Indian meals. My curry will probably be a typical Australian one and hopefully it will be tasty.

All right my dear friends that’s all for this week, thank you all for your support and may God bless you all.

Keep on keeping on my friends…

Have a great week!!!

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #142

WELCOME BACK

to our

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS LINK UP

Hi there all! and welcome back to our weekly link up. How have you all been?

Although it’s spring here, it’s been a cold and wet week again. The ground had just started to dry up a bit and now it’s all boggy again. My wonderful husband had to fix the back veranda roof but now we don’t have any holes and the veranda stays dry, that’s a plus.

We’ve been busy doing school and just all the normal stuff this life brings, cooking, cleaning, gardening.  We started this past Monday a bit tired after a busy weekend so it took a bit to get us started.

We had our usual Bible study on Tuesday night, and we are enjoying the study and the fellowship with like-minded believers. This week we discussed the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt.

With it being so wet my husband was home on Thursday and managed to get all our berry plants in the ground. We are hoping to have a pick your own, but we’ll see how that pans out as the berries grow.  We still have quite a few root stock to get in and that will hopefully happen next week.

Friday was a busy day for us with pottery lessons, dentists and bible class but it’s always nice to be together. We only have one more week of pottery left before holidays and then we’ll reassess our attendance for next term.

On Saturday, after piano lessons, we headed to our son-in-law and daughters place for our grandson’s 2nd birthday. He is such a little boy and a real joy and we had a great time with them all. We haven’t spent much time together over the last month or so due to other commitments so it was really nice to finally be together.

We bought him a truck and I also knitted him a pair of socks. I also knitted my husband another pair and there’s definitely a size difference. Just think, this little man will one day wear socks the same size as his grandfather, amazing how they grow. The raised garden beds are going well and we managed to spend some time weeding and mulching them again this past week. The onions are soldering on and so is the garlic. Everything is a bit slow growing due to the weather but it won’t take too many more weeks for the weather to turn around.Okay onto our link up…

This coming week will be much the same as last week. We have our usual Bible Study and Friday activities with the addition of a bonfire on Friday night as a young people’s event. The children are looking forward to it and we are looking forward to the fellowship with others.

Thank you all for your support and may God bless you all.

Keep on keeping on my friends…

Have a great week!!!

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #141

WELCOME BACK

to our

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS LINK UP

Hi there all! and welcome back to our weekly link up. How have you all been?  Has your week been productive???

I’m not sure if my week has been productive but I think that most homeschooling mums would think the same. Sometimes it doesn’t seem that you get anywhere but I know that what we are doing is more valuable than anything else that we do.

So our week consisted of schooling and music practice, we had our usual Tuesday night bible study and it is always so eye-opening. This past week we looked at Moses and his life up until he fled from Egypt. It is so wonderful to dig into the scriptures and understand more and more of what it means.

Wednesday is usually a bit slower because of our later night the night before and dad was home for the day so that was an added bonus for us. Our no 2 son just so enjoys helping his dad outside and at the moment they are cleaning out the workshop so that they can get some wood work done in the near future.

My husband is also busy preparing a patch for berries and has been trying to get the fencing in order to keep our stock off of it.

On Thursday afternoon he took our no 2 daughter up to Ararat to pick up the fruit tree root stock that he had ordered and was blessed with more berries. We already had raspberries to put in but now we have others as well.  So instead of 1 run we will now have 3. He will plant the root stock this year and then graft onto it next year. There is apple and pear and stone fruit I think.

This year we have grown out day old chicks and we have now officially sold all of them. It has been such a blessing and our no 2 daughter is enjoying looking after them. There are heaps of lessons to learn when you look after animals and it is teaching her so much.

The chickens that we got late last year are back in the swing of laying and occasionally we get this huge egg. We often get double yokers and big eggs but this one is far bigger than any. We only get one of these every month or so but it is amazing.Pottery lessons are still going and we have 2 more left until school holidays. Our no 2 daughter is really starting to get the hang of it and managed to get some nice bowls made this week. Here she is above at the wheel with her finished bowl. The skill is in not fiddling with it too much and then having it fall out of shape. You just have to get to a point and say “that’s it, I’m not touching it again”. Then there is skill in getting it off the wheel without warping it. It’s definitely keeping us on our toes.

I managed to make this one below and it’s the best one so far. I was so pleased with it and it even came off the wheel nicely. I’m looking forward to using this as a pasta/dessert bowl in the future.Unfortunately a couple of my items cracked this week so I had to make another vase. We’ll see how this next one goes.

On Saturday after music lessons we managed to get outside and get some weeding done in the raised beds. It has been so wet and the area around the beds is under water and it’s difficult to get around because it is so slippery. We got the strawberry bed finished which is great and the strawberries are starting to take off and are flowering. The broccoli and cauliflower and cabbage are all looking really healthy but are really slow coming to head. I guess they will probably all come in at once but I’m looking forward to doing some more dehydrating.

We have too many bugs here to be able to grow these vegetables in the summer.

Saturday afternoon some of the men from church went and did some work for a single lady and her sons. My husband went and helped out so the children and I got the house clean and around the back verandah sorted out a bit. We’ve had roof issues and my husband and our no 2 son have fixed it to a point that it won’t leak now so it’ll be nice to have it all dry.

Okay that’s enough for now…

Onto our top three… September Intentions by Setting My Intention what wrecks you… by Beth Willis MillerIt Is Jesus – A Poem by Annie Johnson Flint by The Cotton Apron

Thank you so much for stopping by and linking up.

This week is much the same as last week, with school etc. The fun and exciting thing is coming on Saturday. It is our grandson’s 2nd birthday and we will be going up after music lessons on Saturday to spend the day and then the other grandparents and aunties will come up for tea.

We haven’t really spent much time with our son-in-law, daughter and their family over the last couple of months so this will be really nice and we are all looking forward to it.

I’ve been busy knitting socks and I’ve finished a pair for his birthday and I’m now finishing another pair for my husband. I’m starting to think of birthday and Christmas gifts now and what with pottery and knitting, I think we’ll have it covered.

We’ve been doing lots of thinking on Hebrews lately and we haven’t quite finished it at church yet. The fact of what Jesus has done for us is becoming an amazing reality (even though we knew the fact) and something that we ponder on a daily basis – so amazing His love for us.

Okay my dear friends, I pray that you are all well and I look forward to hearing from you again this week.

Thank you all for your support and may God bless you all.

Keep on keeping on my friends…

Have a great week!!!

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS #140

WELCOME BACK

to our

GOOD MORNING MONDAYS LINK UP

Hi there all! and welcome back to our weekly link up. How have you all been?  Has your week been productive???

It’s been a good week in our household this week, we are all tired but I think that might just be the winter weather. This week we saw the first day of spring and we’ve had some sunny weather and the days are lengthening but there is more cool weather and rain coming next week.

We’ve managed to get a good week of school completed this week and are finding our routine again. We had our usual Tuesday night bible study and we are really enjoying that. This week we talked about Abraham and Isaac and all that surrounded that story – fascinating really. It is good also to spend time in prayer for our church family and friends.

Wednesday we went and visited some friends, actually my husband is doing work for them so we went with him for the day. It was so lovely to catch up after not seeing them for a few months. They are the family with the little boy Jotham who has had health issues. These are still continuing and they are facing many tests but he is back home and it’s nice to see him sitting up and enjoying his environment. He is such a cute little boy and such a blessing.

I managed to find time to do some gardening this week and I continued weeding the strawberry bed. The other vegetables are growing well and the garlic is coming through and looks good. Our no 2 son and I even got some beds cleaned out in the aquaponics hot house. We planted rockmelon and watermelon seeds as well and it’ll be interesting to see how they come up.We had our usual pottery lessons this week and although I didn’t go too well on the wheel our no 2 daughter went great and managed to turn up 2 really nice bowls. I worked on some hand crafting and made a plate and this vase. It’s upside down for the week until it dries then I will smooth up the edges and tidy it up a bit before it gets fired for the first time. I’m thinking I’ll make a few of these, because if they work they’ll make nice gifts. Next week I’m going to make a butter dish with a lid so that’ll take a bit of thinking out.  We only have 3 more lessons this term so I’m keen to get a few items made. We will need to go back next term for a little bit to finish off some stuff but I’m not sure if we’ll do the whole term or not.

Friday night we went to a Scripture Union fundraising progressive dinner and that was good fun and we caught up with some friends that we haven’t seen for a while. Saturday was the usual piano lessons and then church again on Sunday. We had a fellowship lunch on Sunday as it was the first Sunday of the month, then we came home and the children lavished dad with love because it was fathers day.

Okay that was our week…

This week is another one at home doing school and work around here. We have bible study, pottery and music lessons and our no 2 son has another dentists appointment (he had one last week).

It’s only another 4 weeks and our no 1 son will be home again and we are all looking forward to that.

Okay my dear friends, I pray that you are all well and I look forward to hearing from you again this week.
